Summerville, SC Angustiden Shark Teeth – Early Megalodon

Summerville, South Carolina is known for its abundance of fossilized shark teeth, particularly from the Miocene and Pliocene eras, which are roughly 2 to 24 million years old. What makes these shark teeth special is that they are relatively easy to find due to the unique geological conditions in the area.

During the Miocene and Pliocene periods, Summerville was covered by a shallow sea. Over time, sediment and marine fossils, including shark teeth, became buried in the sea floor. When the sea receded and the land rose, the fossils were exposed and can now be found in the area’s many rivers and streams.
